Gunahon ka Devta by Dharmvir Bharati

The story is set in the nostalgic, academic backdrop of mid-20th-century Allahabad (now Prayagraj). It revolves around Chander, a brilliant, lower-middle-class research student, and Sudha, the daughter of his revered university professor.

Chander is treated like a family member by the professor. Over time, an intensely deep, pure, and platonic love blossoms between Chander and Sudha. However, bound by immense gratitude towards the professor and rigid societal caste norms, Chander suppresses his feelings. He goes as far as convincing Sudha to marry another man chosen by her father. This fateful decision sets off a chain of emotional devastation, inner conflicts, and tragedy for everyone involved
